Luna

LYRICS:
I think they think I’m a bit odd, you know,
But I’m sure I’ll get by;
And I’ve seen horrible things
That even still can keep me awake at night,
Too scared to flee, too sad to fight;

But there in the dark, if I open my heart
And my eyes, I can see it.

You and I and all will find great evil in our time,
But when you face the darkness, don’t forget the light.

I know they say I believe in silly things
Like wrackspurts and nargles and you;
And I know maybe better than most the worth
Of wit and wisdom, but I know, too,
That facts aren’t quite the deepest truth;

So I look for the light in the world, in your eyes,
And I choose to believe it.

You and I and all decide what’s worthy of our minds,
So when you see what’s broken, don’t forget what’s right;
When you face the darkness, don’t forget the light.

You and I and all alike are fighting for our lives,
And you’ll ignite a flame inside our hearts, inside our eyes,
But careful, careful, as you lead us through the night,
Keep us mindful of what’s worthy, of our many reasons why;
As you fix what’s broken, don’t forget what’s right;
As you fight the darkness, don’t forget the light.
As you fight the darkness, don’t forget the--

LINER NOTES:
In the midst of a grand narrative filled with overwhelming evil, Luna Lovegood is a quiet, pervasive presence, offering hope to Harry Potter and his friends and reminding them what and whom they’re fighting for. And we need Luna in our world, too, I think. We need the moonlight on our darkest nights. We need to be reminded that people are for loving and that life is somehow still beautiful, despite all our brokenness and division. This is Luna's song for all of us.

Daniel had a chance to sit down and talk with Colin Cox of The Cluttered Desk Podcast about the making of this song. The episode is called "The Process - Part 1 (featuring daniel couper)," and you can find it wherever you get your podcasts, or click the button below to listen online:
